16 Month Baby Update - fANNEtastic food | Registered Dietitian Blog

Hi associates!

It has been ages since I did a Riese replace – apparently my last one was the 1 yr update! Whoa. Now that she’s 16 months previous as of this week I assumed I’d pop in at the moment to share how issues are going over right here in toddler-land.

Learn on for updates on what Riese is into these days, the place we are with nursing/weaning, our new childcare state of affairs, and more!

Taking a look at that photograph above I’m like, wow, is that basically my little baby?!

It’s loopy how shortly I feel like she went from being a child into a full-blown toddler – she is now walking (almost operating), doing a bit talking, and full blown tantrum-ing here and there, too (yikes – she does NOT like when she doesn’t get her approach…).

Current Favorites

Now that Riese can absolutely walk (she started a pair months in the past but didn’t get super assured till earlier this month), she is obsessive about it and needs to stroll on a regular basis!

At house, she loves making an attempt to unravel all the toilet paper and then shred it everywhere in the rest room (Zara should have taught her that one…), and she or he’s also an enormous fan of taking all of the rolled trash luggage out of the canine leash.

She’s also obsessive about taking off her footwear and socks in the automotive and stroller.

It is going to be like 40/50 levels and she or he’ll rip off her footwear and socks and make me appear to be a nasty mom who doesn’t maintain her youngster’s ft warm… 😉

Fairly the mischievous infant!

Her favourite word is “canine” – not stunned there. 🙂

She LOVES Freyja the canine and Zara the cat… we are working on mild petting and she or he’s been fairly good with it recently. They have been very affected person together with her!

Different words up to now embrace mama, dada, “uh oh”, and “la la la” if we are singing. 😉 She has started making an attempt to imitate a number of words we say now, too.

She’s an enormous explorer and adventurer. She LOVES being outdoors, so anytime it’s nice out we discover nearby parks.

On the playground, she loves the swings, climbing up and down any stairs/steps which might be nearby, and taking place the slide.

She also actually loves enjoying within the filth, analyzing leaves, carrying around sticks, and so on.

Keep tuned for some mud pie blog recipes sooner or later (jk). 😉

Sleep + Nap Replace

We’re fortunate she’s still an excellent nighttime sleeper (knock on wooden) – she often sleeps from about 6:30 or 7 until about 7.

I have zero recommendation re: sleep – each kid is so totally different and I don’t actually assume it’s anything we did… we simply received lucky she become an excellent sleeper.

As for naps, she has switched to at least one (as an alternative of two) naps per day, which I’m pumped about.

She often takes her nap around 12 or 12:30, after consuming lunch.

Not only is one nap awesome because now we now have extra time to do fun stuff and scheduling actions is simpler, however it’s also good as a result of she’s sleeping for longer because it’s abruptly!

Riese was never a fantastic napper (the worth we paid for strong nighttime sleep – very value it) – she would usually solely nap for 30 to 45 minutes, twice a day, so by the time I might clear up stuff around the home, hop in the bathe, whatever, she’d already be up once more.

Now that her two naps are mixed we are extra typically getting a strong 2 or even 2.5 hours – superb! I’m capable of get so much stuff achieved now whereas she’s napping in comparison with earlier than, which is awesome. I assume all that walking is tiring her out!

I really like creeping on her when she sleeps… so sweet.

Childcare Update

It’s excellent news that I’ve more time constructed into my days together with her one longer nap as a result of we very sadly stated goodbye to our nanny of over 1 yr final week.

She needed to go residence to Bolivia for awhile and wasn’t positive when she’d be back – in all probability early summer time, however lengthy sufficient that she resigned vs. asking us to attend for her.

Her last day was final Thursday and each of us (me and our nanny, not Riese – she was oblivious) cried once we stated goodbye. So unhappy to see her go – she was with us beginning when Riese was about 11 weeks previous, and was so sweet and wonderful together with her.

After much debate and interviews, I made a decision to drop right down to 2 partial days every week of childcare (vs. the complete three days we have been doing earlier than) and we found a sitter who might come on Mondays and Wednesdays.

I’m so grateful to have an extra full day every week (and some additional mornings) with Riese now! It was a change I’d been eager to make for awhile, however I didn’t need to rock the boat with our nanny as a result of I knew she wanted the hours/full days… so when our nanny informed us she wanted to go away, I decided it was a sign to combine issues up.

The longer nap state of affairs makes it so much simpler than it was. And any work I can’t get achieved through the day can all the time be tackled after she goes to mattress, too.

I’ve obtained a very busy subsequent few weeks so I’ll in all probability be doing numerous work at night time, however that’s okay – value it to get some additional time for adventures with the infant!

Our new sitter began this week. She seems very nice, although it’s an enormous adjustment to have somebody new in the home and Riese is in a stranger danger part proper now so it took some time for her to warm up which was demanding for all of us!

I’m positive we’ll settle in, though. 🙂 I’m going to start out wanting into preschools quickly, too – my huge woman, ahh!

Meals Update

I feel like that is in all probability ironic as a result of I’m a dietitian and will have all types of artistic ideas for food, but to be trustworthy, I discover mealtime to be a bit tense!

Part of the stress is logistical — I’m not all the time nice about planning forward for meals, so typically I’m making an attempt to make one thing for Riese while she’s flipping out and holding onto my legs. Not exactly enjoyable for either of us. 😉

The opposite half is just that I feel like I’m operating out of concepts for what to feed her already!

We do loads of basics:

  • Fruit
  • Yogurt or cottage cheese, typically with nut butter combined in
  • Banana oatmeal with chia seeds
  • Protein pancake
  • Veggies she likes are peas, string beans, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, and cucumber
  • Toast with hummus or nut butter and with hemp seeds sprinkled on prime
  • Cheese + chopped spinach quesadilla sliced into pieces
  • Grains + beans combined collectively (typically with hummus combined in as nicely to make it more flavorful)
  • We nonetheless love Raised Real (if you want to attempt it, use my affiliate code ANNE3854 for $20 off) – her favorites are the sweet potato + beet with coconut butter, and a number of the quinoa ones
  • Salmon, tuna, or hen
  • Guacamole (she doesn’t like avocado, however likes guac – good style)
  • Veggie burgers (she likes the Amy’s brand black bean burgers)
  • Meatballs (we simply used up the final of my butternut squash + hen sage meatballs from the freezer, and typically I’ll seize an natural store-bought model too)

Studying that listing I feel like it seems like we give her a ton of variety, so perhaps I’m being too onerous on myself?!

She eats a few of our dinner leftovers, too, though whether or not she likes them or not is hit and miss. She’s undoubtedly gotten extra picky these days!

She might be really funny at meals, although – very mischievous! She loves making an attempt to feed the canine and it’s all I can do to not snort and encourage it…

Mullet recreation: nonetheless very robust

On the Go Snacks

Considered one of you of Instagram requested some on the go snack ideas for toddlers, so I needed to remember to contact on this!

For snacks once we are on the go, we still do some fruit + veggie pouches as a backup, however I’ll typically deliver some type of a snack ball or a muffin as properly.

We just like the Easy Mills muffins (I make them with entire milk as an alternative of water, and I add about 1/4 cup of chia seeds to the combination too) so much for a fast choice, and for snack balls I often make a variation of my Oatmeal Raisin Power Bites with totally different mixtures of nuts/seeds/dried fruit.

Snack balls particularly are nice because youngsters appear to like them (as a result of they principally simply style like fruit), but because of the nuts/seeds they are filling as properly! And they are so moveable.

Riese also likes Cheerios and Power O’s (from Love Grown Foods – they seem like cheerios, but are made with beans – nice option to combine it up with some additional protein too).

Nursing update

Everybody all the time needs to find out about nursing + weaning plans once I ask for matter requests on Instagram for these baby replace posts!

I’m nonetheless nursing Riese 2 to three occasions a day, depending on the day. First thing + typically after the afternoon nap until I’m gone/working + earlier than bed until I’m not there.

To be trustworthy, I’m starting to feel really able to be accomplished nursing – I’ve had two bouts of blocked ducts up to now month (ugh, so painful… I simply began taking some sunflower lecithin again this week so hopefully that may help – apparently it helps forestall clogged ducts) and I’m just feeling like I need to have my physique to myself for awhile and to not worry about pumping if I need to go do an early morning exercise earlier than Riese is up, and so on.

However… it’s such sweet time together with her, and she or he’s not ready to be completed.

I really feel prefer it’s going to be more durable to cease now that she’s older/a lot more aware… she all the time faucets my breast to ask for milk and looks at me with these massive blue eyes and I can’t say no!

And if I try to say no/supply her common milk or a snack as an alternative, she cries and I really feel just like the worst mother ever.

So… any ideas for these of you who have weaned across the 16 month time-frame or later?

I needed to make it via cold and flu season and now that we are just about there, I feel prefer it’s time. I for positive need to be completed by early June as a result of I have a trip away from her scheduled.

So, yeah, any ideas can be very useful. She loves entire milk and drinks it all through the day with meals/her snack, in order that doesn’t seem to be the difficulty, thankfully!

Favorite products

Riese is admittedly loving her books these days, and her present favorites are all of the “Little Blue Truck” books. We now have the unique, the Christmas e-book, and the Halloween e-book. They are super cute and properly accomplished books that Matt and I truly take pleasure in reading, too. One different current fave is “Goodnight Gorilla” – so cute!

For water, Riese loves her glass straw cup (it has plastic on the surface so the glass gained’t shatter when it’s dropped).

For milk, Riese makes use of a stainless-steel straw cup. At first we tried just providing her milk in her water cup, but she didn’t appear to love that, so now we’ve got the one cup that’s all the time water and the opposite one which’s all the time milk. I simply supply her each of them at meals and snacks so she will choose.

Riese acquired a brand new excessive chair for her birthday (per our request) late final yr – the Stokke Tripp Trapp. We had the tremendous low cost Ikea high chair previously, but I didn’t like that her legs have been dangling with no footrest, and she or he was all the time capable of slouch and even pull her ft out and onto the tray whereas in that prime chair… plus, the legs went out super broad and we have been all the time tripping over them.

We LOVE our new high chair. Extremely advocate!

And I feel that’s about all I have for you as we speak! If there’s something I didn’t talk about you need to hear about, be happy to ask!

We’re wanting ahead to getting out for plenty of hikes this spring – she loves them as much as we do. 🙂
